Indigo PoCoP - Proof-of-Commitment-Protocol

@gcarrharris @Serotonin We discussed having a ‘contest style’ of incentive included in the budget, but I don’t think that style of incentive, if used exclusively, will achieve the objective of having constant content flow. Ideally, we want multiple elements of the project/web app discussed with some frequency, not just pigeonholed to one particular element. Unless I have misunderstood this?

#### Objectives of the POG

Boost Indigo Protocol Awareness: Through various content formats (X threads, infographics, videos, articles, etc.), increase public knowledge and understanding of Indigo Protocol’s features, benefits, and developments.

Engage Community Creativity: Encourage community members and external content creators to contribute to the Indigo ecosystem by producing high-quality, informative content.

Enhance Community Engagement: Strengthen the Indigo community by actively involving them in content creation and dissemination.

The additional funding of 2k Indy/month has nothing to do with the POG members - this is purely to incentivize KOLs (key opinion leaders)/influencers to create Indigo-specific content. I do agree that the POG members should not be eligible for most categories, however, if the POG members are spending significant amounts of time/resources which is over and above the call of duty, I don’t see why they couldn’t be eligible for some of the categories.

Re moderators - we discussed enabling motivated community members to be moderators instead of the POG, moderation will be required, especially in the beginning. We also are not sure about volume too - so say there are 10+ hours of moderation/month to complete, whoever does it should be incentivized to complete the task. I am happy for POG to be kept out of the moderation, however we would be OK to do some checks along the way.

@DrOctaFunk made an interesting point about if the total 2k isn’t distributed, will the next month just top back up to 2k. I think this is a good idea, but we also may want to have some more in the reserves to create additional competitions or do some specific videos that sit outside Labs domain. So maybe there should be some type of ceiling on the amount of funds permitted to be kept in the POG wallet.

The whole purpose of this initiative is to turbo-charge Indigo content, get as many people talking about it and really expand Indigo’s reach.

So my other question is for how many months would this 2k/mo go on for? I don’t think it’s a good idea to vote to spend funds indefinitely as it makes it harder to budget for other projects (how many years worth of funding should I deduct from the treasury to know what’s “left” to use?).

I don’t really agree with just giving the 2k/mo or unused funds to the POG, because funds should be explicitly spent on what the DAO voted on. That can lead to low balling expenditures on project X so that you can fund your own pet project Y.

So this leads me back to saying that I think that the POG should propose a “trial” month and , if it goes well, then submit another proposal for 1-3 months further funding. If it’s a success then this could be an easy continual “shoe in” vote by the DAO (who are already wanting more regular voting periods to re-activate their INDY stake).

It’s a question of finding a happy medium; the idea we want to propose makes sense in the long term.
Indigo has added value to the crypto ecosystem, so if the DAO has an income and wants to try decentralized marketing with a decent budget, I think the time is now.

I agree that it’s tricky to vote for an indefinite budget for the time being; on the other hand, it’s just as easy to vote to stop a project as to continue it.
The idea here is not to force anything, but simply to leave a comfortable margin for maneuver so that we can plan for the long term. If we make a contest and the idea doesn’t work in the first month, it doesn’t mean that the PoCoP wouldn’t have worked.

The “hard cap” concept, which guarantees a maximum reward for a given task, seems to me to be a pertinent way of avoiding certain detour.
Going back to Nyorok’s idea, does it seem more appropriate to go with something like this?
1500INDY/month ; divided into 3 categories ( YT, X, others ) ;
1st place in a category: 100 INDY max
2nd place: 50 INDY max
3rd place: 25 INDY max
next : 10 INDY max
As there are 500 INDY per category, the rest of the prizes will be shared among the other participants. If for the first month there are only 9 participants in 3 categories, the PoCoP will spend “only” 525 INDY. The remaining INDY will be carried over to the following month.

Initially, I had planned a form of halving, with a reduction of 4% per month for the supply, which would lead to almost zero expenditure over a ten-year period. Do you think this is really necessary? On the one hand, the security of the DAO’s funds is a priority in my eyes, and on the other, the risk is not huge (since the DAO still has the power) and the more the budget is reduced, the more our initiative loses its meaning too.

I am impressed with all the dialogue surrounding this issue & am an Indigo user/staker/advocate. We could have a optional paid survey onsite that asks new users how they found out about Indigo (wheter Y.T,X,& etc.) By voluntarily paying (10?) ada they would elminate bots/scammers/cheats. This info would help bring into focus the ways that new users were attracked to the Indy ecosystem. An alluring prize must be enough of an incentive for people to take the few minutes needed to answer truthfully. To recoup ones intial investment something simple as (5?) Indy bonus could be applied back to the staking address after a period of time (30 days is my suggestion). If we can agree on the amounts I believe that in the long run the information gained would be valuable. Also maybe all participants could be entered into a (monthly, quarterly, annually?) sweepstakes contest were the winner would recieve a reward. What do ya’ll think?

Is it? I can’t remember what the circumstances were, but doesn’t the proposer lose like 100 INDY if it doesn’t get enough support (as a mechanic to keep out spam proposals)?

Okay, well how long do you think you need to know if it’s working or not? 3 months? Then have your trial be 3 months instead of 1 month. You can have caps per category and based on participation and then whatever doesn’t get used after the 3 months is given back to the DAO.

I guess I also don’t see the long term benefit of spending roughly $5k/mo (avg INDY price is ~$2.5 over the past year or so) to endlessly support a community content contest. People probably need more time to create higher quality content than 1 month. I think that a few contests here and there could be a good way to engage the community, but there are probably diminishing returns after $X or doing it so frequently.

I have been travelling/not in front of my PC, hence the delay in response.

Budget period
Having a 1-3 month budget and or focusing just on a 1-month competition is counterintuitive to the long-term vision. We are comfortable with a 12-month budget/funding for the initial launch, whilst conducting periodical internal reviews. The purpose of the -internal- reviews will be to identify what works/doesn’t work and pivot our strategy accordingly. This approach provides us with a degree of agility instead of constantly going back to step one. The Indigo working teams are an indefinite initiative, but I think for this, a 12-month budget makes the most sense.

Creating constant voting
The DAO moves slowly, and rightfully so, and doing constant temp checks/on-chain votes will slow down the process and create unnecessary administration for everyone involved. We want to find out what incentive structure/program works best and then automate it. Also, creating votes for the sake of having a vote is pointless to me. There will be plenty of items that require votes coming up in the next 12 months especially with the Treasury unlock, so I don’t think that’s relevant to this initiative.

Unused funds
I can agree that safeguarding POG expenditure is wise. It isn’t our intention to use any funds in a nefarious/selfish manner, nor is it our intention to grow the POG funds to a point where there’s the ability to fund any over and above expenses. We want transparency, so any use of residual POG funds can be put to a discord or Indigo working group vote. In addition to that, we can put a 5k INDY limit that the POG wallet holds. I cannot see a reality where we even come close to 5k residual in the wallet as we intend to use the funds strategically and creatively to assist with the growth of the project.

Can you add how transparency it will be handled? Like to show the community which accounts were chosen and for how much INDY

Indeed, the initial idea would be to give the link to the “work” done, the wallet associated with this work, and the amount paid.
But I’m open to any suggestions

I really like how you guys have funds distributed across different media platforms.

This way it’s not only going to just YouTubers but someone who writes a Medium article outlining CDP strategies can also be rewarded. I’m also really stoked on the engagement this proposal has received. Even though it hasn’t been all ice cream and rainbows, it’s great to see the community come together and voice their opinion’s.

My initial reaction is that a decentralized web portal is a huge undertaking for the POG to take on right out of the gate. It would likely require frontend and backend talent plus audits and hosting. I would suggest keeping this in mind for the future but starting with something more simple and manageable. Perhaps down the road we can propose special funding to make this happen and utilize some of the Indigo Labs talent to get it built out.

I think 1k $INDY/month is a great starting point and can be scaled up in the future as needed. I would suggest the POG members gather the different media articles/content each month and post them in a read-only monthly POG Content Submission discord channel for everyone to see. Or perhaps a google doc or spreadsheet that is viewable by the community. At the end of the month POG announces who they selected for each category and why.

Some have suggested that POG shouldn’t be moderating because of the risk of bias? Tbh I think they are the perfect candidates for this because they are the talented marketing big brains we would want for this job. It’s literally why we voted them into this position isn’t it?. I trust their judgment and I trust them to be honest in their efforts. If we were to suggest POG couldn’t select any of their friends then no selections would be made because In this small community (Cardano) we all know each other and we are all friends and fans of each others work. If by chance there was ever a reason to doubt that assumption in the future then I think we could cross that bridge when we get there. We are talking about marketing material submissions and selections here. It’s not like we are giving anyone the keys to the back door. I just don’t see the point in sewing doubt and distrust into the group we just entrusted to manage the outreach efforts.

I think there should be a path for POG to receive additional funding for larger undertakings that can’t be justified by their 250 $INDY stipend. The Stipend covers their efforts in Boosting Indigo Awareness, Engaging the Community Creatively and Enhancing Community Engagement, as outlined in their objectives. Say some of the POG members wanted to produce a huge 100+ hour piece of marketing material, say a series of in depth animated motion graphic tutorial videos outlining every known CDP strategy achievable within the Indigo Protocol, then I think they should have the option to produce a small sample work showing what they intend to produce and propose to the DAO that they receive X amount from that months budget to cover the costs of their efforts to produce the full work.

Well fwiw there’s my 2 Lovelace’s of input. POG has really hit the ground running with their ambition and creativity and I gotta give them props for that. Keep it up fam.
